This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts of relational databases and structured query language (SQL) using MySQL, a widely used open-source database management system. Students will learn how to design, create, and manage relational databases efficiently. The course covers essential database operations such as data definition, data manipulation, querying, and reporting. Practical skills are emphasized through hands-on lab exercises and projects involving real-world scenarios.

Students will gain a solid foundation in data modeling, normalization, indexing, and relational integrity, along with an understanding of how to optimize database queries for performance and security.

This module introduces the core SQL commands used to create, modify, and manage data in a relational database. Students will learn how to write and execute SQL statements to create tables, insert records, update data, and delete rows. Emphasis is placed on understanding SQL syntax, data types, and best practices for handling structured data using the MySQL database system. By the end of this module, students will be able to confidently perform essential data manipulation tasks.

This module focuses on using conditional logic to filter and retrieve specific data from a database using SQL. Students will learn how to apply the WHERE clause effectively, utilize logical operators (AND, OR, NOT), comparison operators, and pattern matching with LIKE. The module emphasizes writing precise and efficient queries to extract meaningful insights from large datasets. Practical exercises help reinforce the ability to query real-world data accurately based on various conditions

This module teaches students how to organize and refine data retrieval using SQL. It covers the use of the ORDER BY clause to sort results based on one or more columns, as well as filtering techniques with DISTINCT, LIMIT, and OFFSET to manage query output. Students will learn how to enhance data readability and control result sets efficiently. Through hands-on practice, learners will develop skills to produce clean, relevant, and well-structured query outputs.
